Nomads

Nomads.

Kyrgyzstan is a very stunning country with a history of dating back to the second millennium BC!

For many years Kyrgyz people lived in the mountains as nomads. Their way of life was conditioned by the topographical position they mainly lived in the uplands. They had to roam around in order to find better places for the sheep to be grazing. Only in the first half of the 20th century they settled down.  Some of them live in the mountains even up to these days; cherishing the traditions of their ancestors ...

Yurt is a unique portable itinerant dwelling used by Kyrgyz people more than a couple thousand years. It has a very unusual structure of wooden building from the inside covered with felt with no nail using. Yurt can be produced within 20 - 25 days. The carpets of the best quality can last approximately for 40 years. People can set up the yurt within one hour. Nomads can change their settlements from one place to another loaded by only 3 horses.

The yurt has two separate parts precised to either men or women. On the left hand corner the men keep their weapons, horse trappings, whips. The women preserve different kinds of home accessories, kitchen pottery, tableware, as well as their jewels and ornaments on the right side. In order to discrete the whole yurt from the kitchen side there is a straw mat. The opposite part of the door is named tor précised for the most appreciated elderly people or guests. On top of the chests women keep here blankets and rugs which they made themselves. Women stack them on top of each other in a very neat order which will illustrate the family's wealth.

In regular nomadic villages there are about 90-100 families which are known as ails. Some old Chinese engravings about wars and battles the Chinese came to the land of nomads decided to attack them early in the morning. But they didn't manage to do it.  Within one night the whole village was gone as nothing was there! The whole village left the area so fast without leaving any signs that the Chinese could only guess which direction they had left.
