The Kyrgyz Republic. practices a parliamentary system of governing. The name of the president is Almazbek Atambaev. The country received its independence on August 31, 1991 splitting from the USSR. It is positioned in North- Eastern part of Central Asia. It borders on the states like Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The area comprises 195 sq km and 93 % of it is above 1500 meters. The highest point makes 7439 m and named Peak Pobeda while the lowest is 402 m which is in Fergana valley. The capital is the city of Bishkek with the population of more than 5 million people. The main cities in Kyrgyzstan are Bishkek, Cholpon Ata, Karakol, Osh, Naryn, Jalal Abad and Talas. The languages spoken in Kyrgyzstan are Kyrgyz and Russian languages. The main ethnicities are Kyrgyz (59.7%), Russian (16.2%), Uzbek (14.1%), Ukrainian (1.7%), Tatars (1.2%), other nationalities (7.1%): German, Kazakh, Korean, Uigur, Tajik, Dungan.
